Case Study:

Building & Sustaining An Inclusive Community

Episcopal Day School of St. Matthew

The Client

Episcopal Day School is a private coeducational day school located in San Mateo, California, founded in 1865. Their mission is to inspire, through an academically challenging course of study, the intellectual curiosity, confidence, moral courage, and character that prepare students to be leaders of positive change in the world.

The Challenge

Offer a dynamic experience to faculty and staff that helps build on their core values of Respect for Diversity and Compassionate Community, as part of their commitment to building and sustaining an inclusive community representing diverse backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs.

Just Cause really helped inform our previous work in identity, intersectionality, power, privilege, and positionality. The case allowed us to explore these things in new ways and made our community as a whole think deeper about the impact they have on relationships within the school and the relationships between students and teachers.”

How We Partnered

Just Cause: The Experience via Telepresence

Faculty & Staff

Professional Development

Just Cause: The Experience Icon
Episcopal Day School brought in Just Cause: The Experience on a professional development day for faculty & staff.

As a Telepresence event, faculty & staff were able to share the experience in the same physical space while we delivered each phase of the program virtually. Audience members were able to address their peers and leaders in person as they discussed issues related to race, gender, and power.

Outcomes & Feedback

Episcopal Day School’s partnership with Canamac Productions created a sustained and ongoing conversation about identity, intersectionality, power, privilege, and positionality among faculty & staff.

Participants noted that the experience provided something that stayed with them, and conversations are still happening.
